Daniel from Dittography

I live in Perth, Western Australia, and work as a freelance writer/editor. I’ve worked for Perth Zoo for the past 10 years in communications with responsibility for the website, social media, members’ magazine and interpretation (animal and exhibit signage and its like).

I’m also a keen photographer and have taken many photos of people, events and animals, as well as produced videos for YouTube (I made over 40 videos), covering everything from births, relocations, behavioural enrichment, release programs and just plain adorable animals.

I have also worked with not-for-profit wildlife conservation groups including Project Numbat, Asian Rhino Project and Painted Dog Conservation Inc. I helped out as a writer, editor, website designer and webmaster, and graphic designer for brochures and newsletters. Just another way I could lend a hand to threatened animal species.

And a little bit more about me

I completed my honours degree at Curtin University in 2004, with majors in journalism and creative writing. That was a great experience, even with all the work, and I made some life-long friends.

I’ve also spent some time learning languages including AUSLAN (Australian sign language), Italian and French. While I’m not fluent, they’ve all come in handy at one time or another, and I just love being able to stretch my brain.

And finally, my favourite animal…tricky…but it’s an even draw between the numbat (check out this amazing Aussie marsupial) and the Sumatran tiger.

If you’d like to know more, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
